One day I was listening to the radio in the living room with my sister, my mum and dad were out. After a commercial, this reggae tune came out of the Hi-Fi speakers: "I'm gonna send it to out of space...". Nothing unusual during the first 8 bars of the song. Then suddenly, over that tune, high tempo and loud beats like I had never heard before. My sister and I got up instantly and started dancing like lunatics. That lasted for six minutes and it was intense, violent and such a liberating experience. For me, it was a kind of love at first sight with that song. Right after the broadcast, I ran towards the phone, called the radio station and asked for the name of the artist. The guy on the phone said what I thought was "Pro DJ"...
That was the "Picchiotti & Bristol Millenium Mix" of "Out Of Space".
It is more club orientated and less 'underground' than the original version but on the dancefloor it works like no other Prodigy mix in my opinion. When I discovered the CD single with the ostrich on the back sleeve subtitled with "I'll take your brain to another dimension", I just thought that this was the best image to match the crazy high pitch vocal over the uptempo beats of the song. And this sentence "I'll take your brain..." is just the perfect definition of what the "Millenium Mix" did to me.
Everything is perfect in this remix. The climax of it being the repeating "I'll take..." sentence interrupted by that "bipbipbip..." break before another series of repeating sentence. That really turns you on when you're dancing to this...
There are few remixes like that one that have always stayed in my top ten favorites with The Chemical Brothers Micronauts remix of "Block Rockin' Beats" for example.
I always play it very loud at the neighbours expense. Listening to this Prodigy mix can't bear any compromise...
Too bad this mix is only available on that rare digipak CD single !
