It isn't as intense as the Fillmore shows, but it does capture the group as a little-known working band with but a single album out and building a reputation - and with Dickey Betts yet to emerge as either a singer or composer and their sound still being worked out Statesboro Blues gets a startlingly subdued performance, anticipating. the acoustic version of In Memory of Elizabeth Reed from the '90s recording An Evening with the Allman Brothers Band: 2nd Set. On that level, the album puts facile imitators like Jeff Healey firmly in their place. Two of its strongest tracks, Shine It On and Good Clean Fun, are ferocious, full of snarly Betts-Haynes leads and the dueling kits of Trucks and Jaimoe. As for Ludlow Garage, only die-hard Allmanites will want to wade through the second disc of the two-CD set, which consists entirely of Mountain Jam. At forty-four mind-boggling minutes, its over ten minutes longer than the marathon Eat a Peach version. Popular on Rolling Stone. In This Article: The Allman Brothers Band. The Allman Brothers Band formed in 1969 in Macon, Georgia, United States and blended different strains of Southern Rock related music- Blues, Country, Gospel, Jazz, and more- into a flexible, jam-oriented Rock and Roll style. Reflecting the emergence of the New South and setting the style for Lynyrd Skynyrd, the Marshall Tucker Band, and many other bands, the Allman Brothers Band also oddly- or eerily, some would say- had an unusual string of untimely deaths, a pattern similar to other Southern rockers. Everything that makes the Allman Brothers our favorite band is presented in a pure and energetic form here. It's simply a wonder to behold such talent so early in their career. These 3 songs are the highlights of this album for me. I bought Live at Ludlow Garage because it is The Allman Brothers live in a Cincinnati venue before the Big Break. I wanted a document of what I used to witness in the intimacy and immediacy of this Cincy concert space
