Información

Edvard Grieg's Lyric Suite is an orchestration of four of the six piano pieces from Book V of his Lyric Pieces, Op. Both Grieg and the Austro-Hungarian conductor Anton Seidl had a hand in the orchestration. It consists of three pieces revised by Grieg from Seidl's arrangements, and one piece arranged by Grieg alone. Grieg wrote the six Lyric Pieces of Book V for piano in 1891. The original order was: 1. Shepherd Boy Gjætergut. Norwegian March Gangar. March of the Dwarfs Troldtog. Barbirolli recorded the Norwegian Dances, Lyric Suite and Homage March from 'Sigurd Jorsalfor' for EMI at the Abbey Road Studios August 1969 and May 1970. The Symphonic Dances were recorded at the Free Trade Hall in Manchester for Pye on 9 and 10 August 1957. Contents: Norwegian Dances, Recorded 22 May 1970. Lyric Suite, Recorded 6 August 1969. Symphonic Dances, Recorded 910 August 1957. Homage March from Sigurd Jorsalfor, No. 3 Recorded 6 August 1969. Grieg: Lyric Pieces, - Orchestrated By Edvard Grieg - 3. Prestissimo - GRIEG. Album 1994 14 Songs. 3 Orchestral Pieces From Sigurd Jorsalfar, Op. 56: III. Homage March. 14 Songs, 1 Hour 4 Minutes. Released: 11 Jan 1994. 1994 Naxos. More By BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. Ever since the Peer Gynt Suite No. 1, appeared in the late 1880s it has been a staple of the orchestral repertory. Indeed, it is safe to say that its four constituent pieces are among the most frequently played and immediately recognizable ever written yet, in a good performance, they still retain a great deal of their original vitality and freshness. Grieg opens the first Peer Gynt suite with a piece called Morning Mood, originally played at the beginning of the fourth act. A gentle E major theme is announced by the flutes, and then the oboes, against a static harmonic background that effectively emulates the stillness of the first moments of dawn. Grieg: Peer Gynt Suite No. Peer Gynt's Return by Berliner Philharmoniker and Herbert von Karajan. Listen Now . The Holberg Suite and Sigurd Jorsalfar: Three Pieces for Orchestra are performed by the Berliners, from 1982 and 1972, and they seem to be mainly in a baroque style. I would rather listen to Bach. The Norwegian Dances, performed by the Göteborgs Symfoniker of Sweden, led by Neeme Jarvi in 1986, is light and lively, but not very interesting.
