Song 2 is a song by English alternative rock band Blur, the second track from their 1997 self-titled fifth studio album. The riff-based track, known for its overdriven chorus, is among the best-known songs the band has recorded, and easily their best known in North America. The hook features Damon Albarn yelling woo-hoo as the guitars come crashing in. Released in April 1997, Song 2 reached number two in the UK Singles Chart, number four on the Australian ARIA Charts, and number six on on US Billboard Modern Rock Tracks Chart. View wiki. Song 2. Song 2 is the second single released from Blurs eponymous fifth album. It is a deeply catchy satire of grunge music. It is named Song 2 because it appears as the second track on the album both on Blur and the compilation album, Blur: The Best Of, it is two minutes and two seconds long, and it is composed of two verses and two choruses. Fittingly, it also reached number 2 on the UK Singles Chart. Song 2 was first performed by the band on June 15, 1996 at the Hultsfred Festival in Sweden. Damon Albarn told the audience: I dont know what its called, I dont even know what its about, . The album Blur was a departure from the impudent London sound of Parklife, moving towards a more American lo-fi feel. At one point Song 2 nearly didn't make the album at all due to its brief length until their American label, Virgin, stepped in. Alex James told Q Magazine: Graham set up two kits, Dave and Graham started playing drums at the same time, this real aggro beat. Then the chorus is two distorted basses and Damon's guide vocal. It was kind of a throwback. We'd always done brainless rocking out, thou. Blur's '93 album Modern Life is Rubbish which had a working title of England vs America was the album that had was viewed in some quarters as the antithesis of Grunge so maybe that is where this odd rumour originated They had since released a further two albums Parklife and The Great Escape led the whole Britpop movement along with Oasis and then distanced themselves from said movement as it started to implode in a parody of itself by the time they got around to recording the fantastic eponymous titled album which spurned Song 2. It was in fact literally song 2 on the album entitled Blur. The song is 2:02 to be exact. Or consider a donation Become a Donor Donor badge, no ads more benefits. With Blur, Damon Albarn, Graham Coxon, Alex James. Begins with Dave playing drums in a room with a flower print wall, Damon sings as the band plays around him bouncing off the walls.
